Math has gotten off to a great start as we continue our geometry explorations. After a quick test today, we are going to delve into perimeter, area, and volume for a few days. I would like to do an activity with volume on Monday, so if you could send in an empty box with your child by then, that would be fantastic! The type of box doesn't matter, it can be any cardboard (cereal, crackers, cookie, fruit snack, cake mix, ect.) box. The test over this material will probably be on Wednesday of next week.
The week before break, we had a blast mixing up chemicals in the classroom and doing experiments to see chemical reactions in action. This was a nice wrap up to our study of matter and chemistry. Now, we are moving on to learn all about sound. I hope to do a simulation outside next week to illustrate some key concepts that the students will be learning about. I also need some straws in order to do an activity with pitch later this week. I'll put the requests on nlist, if you would like to sign up.
This week in writing, the students are working on the research paper portion of their experimental design project. It seems to be coming along nicely and they will continue to have class time (at least 30 minutes a day) to work on it this week. Final papers are due next Friday, April 19.
Tomorrow, your child will be bringing home a permission slip for a field trip to Morefield Mines. We will be going on Thursday, April 25. The cost is $8 for students and $12 for chaperones. Since we are taking a school bus, if you would like to chaperone, you are welcome to drive your car or carpool with other parents.
Mrs. Hand has asked that no candy be sent in to be given out as treats to the students.
And since I finally remembered to grab my camera while the students were working on their labs, here are some pictures of them engaged in trying to find the ph of different solutions.
