Your child will be bringing home field trip information this afternoon for a trip to Presquile Island, on May 2. This enhances out Science SOLs and is a fun adventure day for the students. We will be riding on a pontoon boat to get to the island and all students will have to wear life jackets while on the water. Once on the island, there will be botany and ecosystem lessons as the students explore the nature of the island. The cost for the field trip is $19 and is due on Thurs, April 25. Due to limited space on the boat, I can only take 2 chaperones. If you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible.
Also coming home today is information about the Jump Rope for Heart campaign that Mr. Gray is running. Contact him with any questions.
Math:
We have wrapped up our unit on Perimeter, Area, and Volume. Next week we will be working with measurement. There will be a test on the half day, Friday, April 19.
Reading:
A big research project has been unveiled to the students. They have already started the project and have been working on research for this entire week. Today the received the rest of the information about expectations, a rubric, and all the guidelines that they are to use to complete this. They will be doing the research and writing in class. There is also an at home component. They will need to create a product to share with the class as well as a poster. I am sending the guidelines home with the students today. Please review it and sign that you have seen it. I am giving them a grade for showing it to me on Monday. Basically, Monday = 100 and it is 10 points off per day after that. There will also be a Research Fair at the school on Thursday, May 30, to showcase all of their hard work. Please make note of the project and encourage them at home. They will be working really hard with me here at school to make it the best it can be.
