This week we will be having the reading benchmark. On Wednesday and Thursday, your child will take the reading benchmark. Next Wednesday and Thursday (29th and 30th), they will take the math benchmark. Finally, on Feb. 5, they will take the science benchmark. There is really no way to prepare for these tests as they are snapshots for the teachers to use to see which concepts may need review as the year progresses. All concepts that will be tested have notes in the math notebook at this point.
The second nine weeks Buzzy Bash is scheduled for this Friday at 1!
Next week is SPES Kindness Week. Look for a paper coming home with your child for specific days/activities and even ideas for you to join in on the fun at home!
Math:
Our focus will be on SOL 5.6. This SOL has your child exploring adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. I have put a practice lesson into the Prodigy game and would appreciate you allowing them to "play" it for at least 20 minutes a night. These lessons correlate to our SOLs and allow your child to practice what they need to learn to be successful in class. Most students enjoy playing the game, it is a win/win! If you would like more information about Prodigy, or would like to link a parent account to your child's, please feel free to contact me.
Reading:
We are working on fiction stories in our small group. Soon, your child will begin a novel study during small group time. These groups will be based on your child's reading level as well as their interest.
