We have started my favorite topic in science, chemistry! We are learning all about protons, neutrons, and electrons. We will continue our studies with the elements and compounds and end it with an investigation into how a person knows that a chemical reaction has taken place. There will be a project coming home on Monday, so be on the look out for that.
In writing, we are doing a writing camp rotation. Your child is going around to each classroom during their writing time to get a mini-lesson on a specific topic that will be relevant to them and help to prepare them for the writing test the week of March 10.
Our water safety field trip has been rescheduled for March 20. New permission slips will be coming home for that soon. You will not need to repay since the money was not returned.
Our multi-cultural PTA meeting will be on Thursday. I hope to see some of you there!
Information came home on February 20th about an upcoming fundraiser for Short Pump. It is a “Reading-Raiser”. This is a completely optional fundraiser where students will get friends and family members to sponsor them for reading. All funds that are being raised will go to purchase a promethean board.
Please mark your calendars for our upcoming writing SOL. The multiple choice SOL will be on Tuesday, March 11th. The direct writing portion will be on Thursday, March 13th. Students have been working very hard to prepare for these tests and I know that they will do a great job. Please make sure that your child gets a good night sleep, eats a healthy breakfast and is at school on time.
Also, next week we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday. Mrs. Hand has some fun activities planned for the week. Feel free to have your child participate in as many as they would like.
