MATH: We are finishing up our last SOL for the year next week. We will be working on Patterns. We started today by watching a video on patterns and a few classes had time to go out into nature to look for patterns in honor of Earth Week. Next week we will finish this and a test will be given on Friday (if your child is in McGee or Gosney's homeroom) or Thursday (if your child is in Powell's homeroom), due to the differing dates of the field trip. If your child is in All County Chorus, I will arrange a time for them to take the test individually with them.
READING: At this point, research should be finished. I met with a little over 1/3 of the class today during small group and made sure they were on target with the items that they have so far. Please ask them about their research this weekend and make sure that they feel like they have enough to begin writing a 2-3 page paper on it on Monday. I want to give them PLENTY of time to craft their paper, so they really need some firm research completed. They have been working on it in class and I have checked in with EVERYONE at some point, but just could not get to everyone for a final check today.
FIELD TRIP: Our field trip is on Thursday. Please remember that your child should wear long pants due to ticks/bugs/ect. and tennis shoes. They will need to pack a lunch and bring a blanket or towel for a picnic. If they would like to get a bagged lunch for the cafeteria, please email me or have them tell me no later than TUESDAY so Mr. Stevens has enough notice to get one ready for them on Thursday.
End of the year activities: As we become aware of them, I will be adding events to the fifth grade google calendar. Remember, you can access this by clicking on the link on the right side of this page. Here is what I know so far.
