This week in writing, the students have finished up their newspaper articles about their friend that they interviewed. They have also created a Tagxedo picture and I can't wait for you to look at them. I didn't let them put their names in the creation, so you're going to have to read the 20 words they chose to represent themselves and see if you can pick out your son or daughter! They turned out really cool!
In math, we had a quick quiz last week to check our understanding of negative and positive integers. Everyone did a fantastic job and this week we are putting our understanding to the test by graphing ordered pairs which include negative numbers in the four quadrants. I am planning on having a test on Integers and the Coordinate Plane on Friday.
In science, we are going to be doing a paper towel lab on Thursday and Friday to finish up our study of the Scientific Method. There will be no formal "test" on the Scientific Method as we will be using this all year and I don't want your student to think that it is a skill we are going to put on the back burner now that it has been tested. A grade for this area will come from an activote quiz that your child will take from the Promethean Board.
I hope to see you all on Back to School Night on Thursday at 7. Mr. Driscoll and I will meet in my classroom and go over the policies and procedures that we implement throughout the year. If for some reason you are unable to attend, we will send any papers that we pass out home with your child.
Also, a big thank you to all of you who have diligently sent back all the forms. Today your child is bringing home a salmon colored sheet for you to check and sign off. If all the information is correct, simply sign and have them bring it to me tomorrow. If you need to make any corrections, please do so, sign and I'll take them tomorrow as well.
Mrs. Hand has asked that we pass some information out to you as well. She would like to remind you that if your child is being picked up in the Car Rider loop, they must be picked up by 2:45 or they will be brought to the office.
Next Thursday, September 26, is a half day of school for students. Your child brought home a small green slip of paper for you to send back if their transportation is going to be changing on this day. Please fill this out and send it back to me as soon as possible.
The PTA is sponsoring a Pizza Night on Friday September 27. If you would like to come and fellowship with other SPES families, please send back the pre-order sheet as soon as possible.
And finally, after educating your child, our number one priority is keeping them safe. We will be practicing numerous safety drills throughout the remainder of the month as well as the year to keep everyone refreshed on how to conduct themselves should an emergency arrise.
