I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Back to School night tonight! It begins at 6:30. If you are unable to attend, I will send any information home with your child tomorrow. You may want to bring a pen or pencil in case you want to take any notes. See you tonight!

What a great week! I have really enjoyed the last few days getting to know your kids in my class. They seem like an awesome bunch and I am excited about what we are going to be able to do this year!
I'm sure that most of your kids have come home and let you know that my leg is in a brace. I have messed up my knee and possibly torn my meniscus. I have a check up later to find out more about it. In the meantime, I am using crutches to help me get around the classroom. Even though our classroom is very crowded already, I told the students today that they are allowed to bring in yoga balls to sit on next week. They must also bring in a frisbee to "hold" the ball when it is not being used. There are many students who are more active and many studies point to the effectiveness of yoga balls in helping them to stay focused in class. While this should help most of the students, it is up to you whether you want to supply your child with a ball. In years past when I have utilized the balls, I have noticed a calmer, quieter classroom where students can focus more on their work as they have an outlet to fidget at their seat a little more discreetly. If you would rather not purchase a yoga ball, there are also wiggle seats that you might be interested in instead. Rules and expectations with the yoga balls have been discussed and the consequence for inappropriate behavior will be that the ball will be sent back home to you. As we have been doing activities to get to know each other this week, we are slowly incorporating more of the curriculum in and will start that full force next week. If your child switches for math, we have done that and he or she has met their math teacher. Next week we will begin learning about prime, composite, even, and odd numbers. |
