If you would like to participate in Short Pump Elementary's Spirit Night with Marco's Pizza on September 28 at 5 p.m., please send in the order forms by Monday. Pizza pickup will start at 5 in the car rider loop on Friday. Bring a blanket or chairs, and enjoy a picnic at the Short Pump Elementary Playground!
Safety continues to be Short Pump Elementary School’s top priority, and this year, we hope that you can support us in this effort as well. Please consider donating to the Stinger Fund, which is comprised of direct donations to support instruction and this year safety as well. We need to raise over at least $15,000 collectively to reach our goal. The way we figure it is if each family in my class donates at least $25, it will cover instructional materials of my classroom that the PTA financially provides each year and allows me to have a walkie talkie, an enhanced security measure. Thank you for consideration!
Math Update:
We started learning about Integers this week. You child should be able to tell you about negative and positive numbers. They should know that "Left is Less" and apply that concept when comparing any numbers. Next week, there will be a test on Integers on Friday.
Small Group Reading:
I am still doing small group reading level testing, so there has not been small group instruction yet. We have been doing blended lessons on expectations for Wordly Wise activities. Wordly Wise is fifth grade's vocabulary instructional model. This program will broaden your child's vocabulary and help them learn multiple meanings of words. Since this program can be challenging, it is recommended that your child spend 10-15 minutes nightly reviewing the words. This can be done the "old-fashioned" way by creating flashcards OR by going to their English class on Schoology and accessing the quizlet for the week. Quizlet grants them access to flashcards, games, and quizzes so that they can prepare and learn the words. The students also seem to enjoy it and sometimes get sucked into "playing" more games longer than required. :-)
