We have a lot of fun events coming up this week and next week. First up, is the Fall Festival on Friday evening! It's gearing up to be super fun and I hope to see many of you there! Next week, we have our field trip through the Valentine History Museum. We will be walking along the River Walk in Richmond to discover more about Henrico's storied history. Our trip will culminate with lunch at the observation deck at City Hall. If you haven't already, please sign the permission slip and send in the $6 fee as soon as possible. The deadline is this Friday. I will let volunteers know about chaperones on Friday. If you are interested in chaperoning any field trips this year, please make sure that you have a volunteer form on file in the office.
We have been really busy in math class working on basic computation with decimals. If your child is still having trouble, feel free to help them. I told them that they should NEVER tell you that "Mrs. Gosney will count it incorrect if it's not done her way!" If your child understands a concept and can do it another way without assistance, please encourage them to work on it that way. A post test on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with decimals will be on Monday, October 21.
In science we have learned about the Earth's plates and constructed earthquake proof buildings out of the generously donated materials many of you sent in last week. The students enjoyed the activity and really liked testing their designs on the pan of jello. If you would like to see pictures, click on the link to go to the picture page.
During writing, we have been working with Ms. Jamieson on figurative language. The students have been tasked with creating a comic strip using 3 different types of figurative language that also follows the narrative elements. She will be coming in to class tomorrow to see their progress. We will begin publishing them on comic life then.
I have finished our first read aloud of the year and I am beginning to start the second one. I am planning on reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. If anyone has any concerns about the book, please email me to let me know.
Have a great rest of the week!
