Short Pump Elementary has a tradition of collecting items to send to our troops overseas. We do this in collaboration with the Blue Star Families of Richmond, http://www.bluestarrichmond.org, a chapter of a national organization of families with loved ones who proudly serve our country. Each grade level is assigned specific items to collect. Our goal is to collect 200 of each item in order to complete 200 care packages for active duty military personnel in combat zones and various USO sites. This year, fifth graders are asked to bring in tuna/chicken in foil packages, crossword puzzle books, or playing cards. Students can bring the items into their classroom any time between October 29 - November 9, 2018.
Conferences are just around the corner. If you are concerned about your child's progress, PTA is setting up online sign ups through MySchoolAnywhere. It will be open up for sign-ups the week of October 22nd and closing Sunday, October 28th. After that time, parents will need to reach out to K-5 classroom teachers directly to set up a conference time. Conferences are set up for 15-minute intervals and will be held during the following times, Monday, 11/5 – 3 – 6:30 pm and Tuesday, 11/6 – 8 am – 11:30 am.
Math:
We are working on computation this week. Last week we reviewed addition, subtraction, and multiplication. I gave a pretest before we began review and many students "tested out" and are doing an alternate baseball math activity. This allows me to focus on the students who need assistance with computation while the students who understand it are engaged on an activity that is asking them to work on computation too.
This week we will be moving into division. The challenge this year is to divide multi-digit numbers by a two digit divisior. I will have a link up on schoology for how I teach it so that the students may go back in and watch at home.
