Just a few quick notes about our progress this week:
Math: We are working with patterns and sequences. Your child should have a study guide that they can use to help them prepare for the upcoming test on Friday, November 21. In class this week, we have reviewed the study guide, learned about arithmetic and geometric sequences and how to identify them. We have also worked with pattern blocks and how to extend patterns through mathematical reasoning and application. Tomorrow we will continue this focus using input and output boxes. The test on Friday will require your child to apply what they have learned.
Science: The students have finished up their SOS presentations and should begin sharing them tomorrow! I am excited to see what they have created and am looking forward to seeing if they can convince the GETU team to rescue their family. A study guide was sent home at the beginning of the week. The science test will be on Tuesday, November 25. Please let me know if you need to make other arrangements due to a family conflict.
Writing: We have finished up our expository writing prompt: Three things I am Thankful For. They began Lesson 9 of Wordly Wise today. The test will be on Tuesday, November 25. If your child is out of town, they can make that up when they return from the holiday break.
Extras: We are collecting hats and gloves for the Henrico Christmas Mother. There is a box in our classroom for these donations.
Winter MAPS testing will be the first 2 weeks of December. The reading MAPS test will be on December 2 and the math MAPS will be on December 9. Your child is bringing home a letter with more information concerning the tests today.
Book Orders for December are up and ready online. I will give your child the flyers tomorrow. If you would like to order any books for your child as a present, please let me know and I will contact you when the order arrives and make arrangements for you to pick them up. The orders will be due on December 10 in order to make sure that they are here before school closes for Winter Break. Thank you so much for your support of reading in our classroom! We have gotten 10 new books so far this year!
