Thank you so much to all of the parents who donated supplies! Your generosity helped to make the math and science lessons from the last few weeks more engaging and fun. We started off with graham cracker faults. The kids got hands on experience manipulating graham crackers to simulate different types of plate movements of the Earth's crust. Another activity involved using a gum drop, chewing gum, a marshmallow, and cocoa powder to create a model of the Earth's layers. The students really loved this, especially since they were allowed to chew the gum so they could wrap it around their gumdrop. The kids also got to simulate the rock cycle using crayons to create the three different types of rocks. Finally, they loved creating a gingerbread house to sharpen their math skills. I was very impressed with how they turned out. This year the students have made the best houses that I have ever seen. Today they got to go around and vote for their favorites and are very excited to learn who the winner is tomorrow.
I hope everyone has a great and relaxing winter break! Hopefully you will be able to get to spend time with the people who mean the most to you.
