We have finished our unit on fractions. I am pleased with how well most students did on the final assessment. We are moving into variables tomorrow and for the remainder of next week. The students got flash cards with vocabulary on them today for homework. They should study these for a quiz that will happen on Friday on the VOCABULARY only. Next week, we will be using the vocabulary and applying it to learn how to write expressions and equations. Please note, math 5 students do not need to solve algebraic equations this year. Math 6 students will be responsible for knowing how to solve one step equations. We will be working on this in class next week, and at test that covers everything is scheduled for Friday, February 14.
Reading:
We are continuing our novel studies and the students seem to be really excited about what they are reading. Please make sure that your child is keeping up with assignments. Since I am meeting with small groups more often, I am having issues with some students not working during rotation time and using it to their advantage.
Lang. Arts;
Wordly Wise is over for a while. Instead, we will begin working with Greek and Latin roots. Your child has 8 units of study we will be doing over the next nine weeks and will be learning how many Greek and Latin roots make up words that we use everyday. Word work with these words will still be done in class and quizzes will still be given approximately every 2 weeks.
