I am also not loving the way that this website allows me to put pictures up, so I am going to try to use flickr and see if it makes it easier to share pictures with you. Remember, when we do scrapbooks in class, your child gets to pick the pictures they want to include and are welcome to print any off of the "Pictures" link. Now they can go to the flickr site to find some to print as well.
The parent portal should be up and active for you. I have made my recommendations for your child's sixth grade classes and everything should be in order. If you experience trouble with the operation of powerschool, please contact Mrs. Kastelburg as she may be better able to help you than I am.
I told the students this morning, but want to get the information out here as well, the math "Unit Test" will be a little different this time. They will have a test on elapsed time, even, odd, prime, and composite, and the four quadrants next Friday. Every one has done well with elapsed time, and we are now starting 5.3, which is even, odd, prime, and composite. By Friday, we should begin learning about graphing with the four quadrants. Doing the test this way will allow for more questions instead of 3 tests with fewer questions.
We started our review of Matter today as well. This week will likely be a refresher, but I am excited to get into atoms and elements as well as the Periodic Table by early next week.
We also started our unit on using quotation marks correctly in English. This is a very hard concept for most students as it is one of the first times that formal instruction has taken place. Please review the sheets that will be coming home nightly for homework with your child to ensure that they understand.
Your child is welcome to bring Valentines to pass out to their classmates. Please remember, no candy is allowed to be passed out. If your child would like to hand out Valentines to someone in the class, they should bring a Valentine for everyone in the class. A list of names can be found on the "Star of the Week" page.
