Also, your child brought home a yellow Course Information Sheet. This sheet gives you a brief overview of the different classes your child may be enrolled in next year. All core classes will be chosen by the homeroom teacher, and you and your child will get to choose the Elective. Your child can choose from Beginning Band, Beginning Chorus, or Beginning Strings. Those are all full year classes. If your child would like more variety, he can choose 4 exploratory classes. Each one of these classes will last for one nine weeks. The choices are Art 6 Exploratory, Exploratory Music 6, Discovering Business and Information Technology, Introduction to Technology, and Teen Living 6.
Today, your child received a paper about a Parent Satisfaction Survey issued by Henrico County Public Schools. Please review this paper and take a quick survey online!
Also, with the return of the cold weather, please make sure that your Early Dismissal plan that is on file in the front office is up to date. In the event of a weather related early dismissal, we want to make sure to get your child back to where they need to be.
In math, we are continuing to work with fractions. This will be ongoing for the next few weeks. A "Test" on converting fractions to decimals and ordering them will occur on Thursday of this week. We will then move on to adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.
In reading, we are continuing with StoryWorks articles. Soon we will add a novel study into the rotation as well. A wordly wise quiz will be on Friday of this week.
In social studies this week, we are going to begin our study of the Southeast region. Your child will need to know the states and capitals as well as the important land and water features. There will be a quiz on Friday.
In science we will pick up our study of living systems on Tuesday (1/19). Your child is responsible for knowing all the different organelles inside of both plant and animal cells and the function of each.
