In math, we are going to be moving on to working word problems. We have spent time brushing up our computation skills and will now apply what we know to find the answers to word problems. If you notice that your child is still struggling with any of the computation skills, please have them practice at home. It's a great idea to have them do a few problems on a sheet of paper whenever you might find you have a few minutes to practice.
Next week, we will begin our unit on the ocean. Look for a study guide to come home with the SOLs that your child will be expected to know. We will also be working on a fun project in class to learn more and explore the ocean. The students will get a letter that has washed up from a family that is stranded on an island. Once they learn about how ocean currents form and rotate around the world, they will use what they know and clues sent from the family to figure out where their family is stranded. It is such a fun unit and will culminate in the students designing a presentation to convince the G.E.T.U. to go and rescue their family. This is a really long unit and we will be working with it for a few weeks. Stay tuned for any interesting updates.
Also, Mrs. Kastelburg has distributed applications for the IB program at Moody Middle school. If your child is interested in applying for the program, they should be bringing an application home this weekend. If they have not picked up one, it is not too late. Just have them check into homeroom with me on Monday and I will let them go to Mrs. Kastelburg to pick up an application.
