First off, this week is Success Week! Your child should have brought home a bright yellow letter with more details on Friday, but just in case it's buried somewhere in the back pack, here is a general overview of the "Spirit Days" for this week:
Monday-Wear your favorite team's jersey.
Tuesday-DRESS FOR SUCCESS. Wear a uniform that makes you feel successful. Please make sure any uniforms are appropriate for school. Or, you can wear dress clothes that you feel would help you out in a successful career. (Also, this is Picture Day, so you may want to keep that in mind when choosing your outfit.)
Wednesday-Baseball Hat Day
Thursday-Wear your favorite fitness clothes
Friday-SPES Spirit Day
On Wednesday morning, we will be going out to jog around the track for 8 minutes. I am planning on doing this first thing in the morning, weather permitting. If you would like to come in and help hand out popsicle sticks as the students run, please email me to let me know.
Tuesday is picture day. All students will have their picture taken. Orders must be pre-paid. You can pay online, but please send in a note or the payment envelope with your child so the photographer can keep track of the orders as they are taken.
Also on Tuesday, Parent Teacher conference signups begin. This will work the same way as it did last year and you can sign up for your time/date on n-list.
Thursday is our field trip. We will be leaving the school around 9:30 and are planning on returning at 1:30. Students will need to bring a bag lunch and a towel to sit on. (No glass bottles please) We will be outside the entire time, so students should dress appropriately for the weather. I suggest they wear layers that can be added and removed if needed. Students should also wear shoes comfortable for a lot of walking. Luckily, the weather is looking like it will be sunny, just cool.
On Friday, graded papers will be coming home along with a grade report. Please make sure to sign the report and send it back. Any papers are yours to keep for review.
This week we should finish up our science unit on Geology. I expect to give the "big" unit test on Tuesday of next week. In math, we are going to continue working with computation, but will do so using word problems instead of just numbers. In writing, we are continuing the work on narrative elements and figurative language with the creation of a comic strip that uses all the elements and 3 different types of figurative language.
