Usually my blog posts will come out on Fridays and will be a place where you can find a peek into our week ahead. Typically I try to include pertinent information about events that may be happening at school or in our classroom. There will always be a "Math" area which will let you know about the SOLs that we will be working on for the week, as well as an idea about when a test may be for that area.
If you would like to volunteer to help out in our classroom, please let me know. I would love to set up a time for a "copy parent" to come in and make copies for our class. In order to volunteer, you must have a new volunteer form on file each year. Below are the volunteer guidelines for HCPS and the application. If you have already submitted one this year, we don't need another one.

If you are interested in learning more about gifted identification, there will be a gifted identification information session for Families: Wednesday, September 26th at 9 am in the Cafeteria.
Back-to-School Night: Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm Since we change classes with Ms. Powell and Mrs. McGee, all three of us will be meeting with parents to go over classroom procedures and policies. We are all very similar in our expectations so this is an easy way for you to ask questions from all of us at the same time and still be able to meet with any other teachers that you may need to see.
Math:
This week we are starting with the curriculum. We will begin with SOL 5.3 which is prime, composite, even, and odd numbers. This is a fairly easy concept for most fifth graders and is one that they are ALLOWED to use a calculator to help them answer the test questions. A test will be scheduled for Friday. If the weather turns nasty, the test will be postponed until we at least have 1 day back in school to review. I will send a dojo message out if that changes.
