Welcome to another crazy week! I looked at my calendar and can hardly believe that this is the LAST week of September! I don't know how that happened! Your kids are well on their way to becoming seasoned fifth graders. As we settle in, I am really enjoying the class that we are creating!
Thank you to everyone who came out to Back to School Night! I really enjoyed putting parents' faces with children and hope to see more of you as the year goes on. If anyone would like to volunteer as a copy mom (or dad), let me know and I would love to set up some time that will work for your schedule. I only have two major announcements for this week. 1. Thursday is a half day. Please make sure that if your transportation needs to change that you send in a note so I can notify the office. 2. Graded paper reports will be coming home on Friday. These reports will show you a snapshot of your child's grades to this point in the nine weeks. In math we have finished up our study of Integers and Coordinate Planes and are rolling into Exponents. I am very pleased with how well every one seems to be doing with them. Your child is allowed to use a calculator to help with the exponents. Next week we will be beginning Order of Operations. There will probably be a test next Friday, October 4. I will let you know for sure the date of the test in next week's post. In science we have almost finished up the review of the scientific method. As this is something that we will be using throughout the school year, there will be no "end of unit" test. The culminating activity/test for this will be the Experimental Design project that your child will do in the spring. In writing, I am taking a baseline sample of your child's writing ability with the prompt, "My Favorite Day of the Summer". I am going to look at this and really see where we need to go in order to grow your child's writing skills this year.
