Today, graded paper folders will be coming home. These folders were the ones your child should have brought home before winter break. With the excitement of the Jingle Bell Jog and the winter party that day, I forgot to hand them out. There are no new papers included. I will be catching up on any grading over the weekend, so you can expect to be back on track next Friday as I will send papers home again then.
Thank you to the parents who have sent in the field trip permission slips. We are going on 2 trips this month. The first is to Pocahontas Middle School. There is no fee for this trip, but I must have a signed form in order for your child to go. The second is our highly anticipated Aquatic Safety trip. This trip will be on the 20th and there are FOUR pages that need to be filled out and signed to give your child permission to swim on this day. There is also a $4 fee associated with this trip. If you could please send in the forms no later than Tuesday, it would be a great help!
A peek at our week:
Math: We will begin our unit on ratios. There will be a test on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Reading: We will finish our non-fiction article, "Black Sunday" this week and begin a fiction story on Thursday. New reading groups and wordly wise words have been distributed this week. A wordly wise test will be Friday, January 13.
Science: We are learning about the parts (organelles) in a plant and animal cell. Students are responsible for knowing the organelles and their functions, as well as being able to locate them in a model. They will be building a 3-d model of a cell next week. The test will take place on Thursday.
Writing: Your student has learned how to "WOW" their reader from the start. After sharing interesting story starters with the class, they have now chosen one and are hard at work crafting a story to go with their beginnings. Everyone was working so hard on them today, I hated to stop them for lunch!
I hope everyone has a safe and warm weekend. Enjoy the snow!
