What a great surprise yesterday was! I hope that you all enjoyed a bit of family time and were able to do something fun.
We began wrapping up our chemistry unit with hands on experiments! The students had a blast seeing chemical reactions in action! Today they produced a gas and tried to make just enough foam that it would not overflow the group's vial. The rest of this week, they will be working with chemicals to investigate the other ways that indicate a chemical reaction has occurred. In math we are continuing our geometry unit. This week we are exploring quadrilaterals. Since we have a shortened week as well as Spring Break next week, there will not be a unit test until Tuesday or Wednesday following Spring Break. This week is the final time for the students to be wrapping up any entries for the writing contest. If your child is wanting to participate, please make sure that they have turned in a parental permission form. I am going to have to wrap up the entries and mail everything by Friday. If you have not seen a permission form, you can click here for the entire packet. In the interest of saving paper, I did not print off the 9 pages for each permission form. If your child needs another copy for any reason, you can print off the forms at home, or they can ask me for another one. I will only need the first 3 pages back for the submission. If you haven't sent back the Spring pictures or a note letting me know that you paid for them online, please do so by Friday. Mrs. Walker needs to close out the sales in the office. Also, if there is any change in transportation for Friday, you can send in the note now so that Mrs. Walker is prepared to get everyone where they need to go safely. If I don't see you between now and Friday, have a safe and wonderful Spring Break! When we return we will only have 9 weeks left together! I can't believe how quickly this year has flown by.

Thank you for sending in all of the forms and pictures that have been sent home the past week. At this point, I have most of the purple student information sheets back as well as the progress reports from last week. Please check the pictures and send those in as soon as you can. If you are choosing to keep the entire package and have paid for them online, would you care to send a note in with your child or an email to let me know?
In writing, the students are working on stories to enter into the McGraw Hill Writing contest. Many of them are choosing to work with a partner. I will be sending home permission slips on Friday so that I can enter their story into the contest. We have jumped into our study of geometry with circles! The students in my homeroom will have the Circle Test on Friday. The students in Mr. Driscoll's homeroom will have the Circle Test on Thursday. The students are also participating in the TenMarks.com Math Madness challenge. So far, they have completed over 1000 problems! This week we are focusing on increasing our accuracy. They are able to do this both at home and at school if you would like to have them do extra practice in math. Also on Friday, the students will have the unit test on Matter. They should be reviewing all notes on how temperature can change matter, atoms and molecules, and mixtures and solutions. Coming home today with your child, you will find the Experimental Design Project guidelines. I know that many of the children participated last year, and are excited to do so again. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to email me. Tomorrow your child should have an idea for a project or two that he or she would like to do. We are starting early in case anyone would like to work with plants. Also, Mrs. Hand has asked us to remind parents that there should be no outside food or drinks brought into the dining hall during lunch. |
