What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Reading- We will continue to explore signposts that can help deepen our understanding as we read. So far, we have learned about “Aha Moments” and how they can often signal a change in the story or character’s way of thinking. We should finish reading Because of Mr. Terupt as our class read-aloud.
English- The four types of sentences, fragments, and run-on sentences quiz will be on Monday. This is a change from Friday, 10/29, but the students will have the weekend to practice these concepts.
Gosney Homeroom Math- Students will finish working with Order of Operations this week. A test will be given on Friday. If you have a chance please have your students explain to you how to work problems using the order of operations. A common misunderstanding is that you always need to work multiplication before division and addition before subtraction because of the “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally” mnemonic. In fact, the way that these problems should be worked is that when parenthesis and exponents are cleared, then you work the multiplication and division problems starting with whatever comes first on the left side of the problem and work your way across. You then do the same thing with addition and subtraction. Students in this class will need to also be able to solve expressions with exponents.
Please encourage students to log into Dreambox to work on increasing their math skills. Also, I did sign the class up for a Prodigy account. Prodigy is free for students to play, however, there is an option for you to purchase packs for your child. This is not necessary for you to do in order for your child to get the most out of the learning platform. If they do not already have an account, they can log in by going to Mrs. Gosney’s links in Clever and clicking on the Prodigy icon. They will then enter the class code: EE844E6 If your child already has an account, they can link it to our classroom by signing in, selecting “Update” on the start screen, and entering the following code: EE844E6

What are we learning next week with Mrs. Harrington?
Small-Group Reading- We will start looking at character traits within stories and how characters can change from the beginning of the text to the end due to events in the story. We will focus on vocabulary leveled to your child’s reading level. Please continue to work on Lexia and complete 8 units a week!
Social Studies- We will review the school system in Henrico. This will include making a Bruch Ninja comparison project in which we will partner with our IT teacher in making these projects!
Science- Stayed tuned!!!
