Important! Please READ! NEW THIS NINE WEEKS!!!!!!!
As we enter the last nine weeks of school, we feel it is more important than ever to prepare your child for grade level expectations for next school year. Therefore for the remainder of the year, we will be instituting the following HVA late work policy: Any work not turned in on its due date will be assessed at 10% off per class period. Since fifth graders have every class every day, we will be operating on a -5 points a class day policy. After 10 days, if an assignment has not been turned in, it will no longer be accepted. Your child is responsible for turning in his/her work. We have asked them for it, reminded them that it is due, shown them how to check their grades in PowerSchool for missing work, as well as included their name on a missing work document. If you see their name on that missing work document (that is also shared weekly with you in this newsletter and can be found on Mrs. Gosney’s website) your child can navigate to that assignment and “prove” that it is turned in for you. Since assignments that are turned in late are not being graded at the same time as the rest of the class’ work, the grades will take longer to appear in PowerSchool.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Whole Group Reading/Writing- This week we will continue to read fiction short stories and analyze them during class. Please expect your child to have at least 1 grade a week that will be a culmination of all the reading skills they have been practicing in small groups with Mrs. Harrington and during whole group with me.
Gosney Homeroom Math- This week in math we will learn about different types of triangles and then about how shapes translate, rotate, and reflect.
Please encourage your child to complete the required 5 lessons on DreamBox weekly. This is required by the HVA and is used as a grade. You can check out the weekly dreambox board here. Please continue to encourage your child to complete at least 1 lesson a day.

What are we learning next week with Mrs. Harrington?
Small-Group Reading- Students will be working on a variety of things and we will be reviewing data from the last test to create focused areas of need. Your child may have a practice packet in which they will be expected to complete - please know this is to support their reading in the area they need it most!!! Let’s get ready for those Reading SOLS!!! You should read nightly no matter what reading level you are on! DURING READING SMALL GROUP TIME! Please, Please, Please remember that you should be on the computer with Mrs. Massa or Mrs. Harrington at all times. If you happen to walk by and your student is not on a TEAMS link or in a waiting room please ask them where they should be. Shooting Mrs. Harrington a message via Class DOJO is the best method to reach out to me to get students to the right spot as needed during this hour. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE IT PLEASE REACH OUT TO YOUR HOMEROOM TEACHER!!!
Social Studies- We will be holding off on Social Studies this week in order to make sure we get to all the SOLS in Science ASAP!!!! If you have NOT submitted your WeVideo Project please make sure you submit and present to me ASAP!!
Science- We are flying through Science as we prepare for the SOLS at the end of May. Remember that SOL Pass is an awesome way to study and keep up with current and past SOLS. We will be finishing up the Rock Cycle this week and will be testing on the material! This material will include layers of the Earth, Plate Boundaries, Erosion, Weathering & the Rock Cycle! Start studying now for the test on Friday!
