4-5 graders will continue working on Blue Dog inspired artwork in Kleki
Important Reminders, Dates, & Events:
May is Asian and Pacific American Month and to celebrate, your child is invited to work on a research project that will highlight different Asian and Pacific American people during the morning announcements. What are we learning next week with Mrs. Toth?
Reading/Writing- This week we will continue to discuss and explore different types of poetry including diamantes, limericks, cinquains, and more. Students will identify how figurative language enhances both free verse and rhyming poetry. They will then have the opportunity to write their own poems. Later in the week, we will begin our review of fiction. Students will review plot structure, theme, and the importance of searching for text evidence to support their answers. Our weekly Independent Work Menu will be posted to this week’s reading folder in Schoology.
Social Studies- We will continue our exploration of the Midwest this week by reviewing its physical features, climate, and people. Students will have a quiz on the states and capitals on Friday, April 23rd. Students can study the states and capitals by looking over the Midwest presentation posted on last week’s Independent Work Menu and in this week’s Social Studies folder in Schoology.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Math-This week we will finish our study of angles. We will start the week using a protractor to measure angles. From there, we will move into triangles and classifying them by their sides and/or their angles. Students will also need to know that a triangle’s angles when added together equal 180 degrees and that you can find a missing angle’s measure using this knowledge. They should be ready for a test on Friday.
Science- This week we will be finishing up electricity. We have covered conductors and insulators and static electricity. This week we will finish up with basic circuits, the ability of electrical energy to be transferred into light and motion and to produce heat, simple electromagnets and magnetism, and historical contributions in understanding electricity. There will be a test on Thursday.
