Hello Stinger Families!
We hope you had a fabulous day outside enjoying the snowy weather! In the spirit of keeping the fun going, tomorrow, Monday, can be a Pajama Day for your student. If they would like, they can sign in wearing their pjs. We have a few fun snowy day activities planned.
Please review the newsletter below for important information and concepts we will cover throughout the next week.
Important Dates & Events:
- Feb 1-4th-This week is National School Counseling Week! Mrs. Jones is “All in for All Students,” so let's take a moment to thank her. Take a picture of your student(s) displaying their appreciation for Mrs. Jones. Your student(s) can hold up a homemade sign showing their gratitude. Be creative! Upload ONE image OR Google slide using this form by noon on Friday. Mrs. Bernheart will compile the photos into ONE video to share with her and the community. Thank you for making Mrs. Jones' week special. Reminder: Please ONLY upload an image or Google slide. :)
- Feb 4th- Optional Parent Teacher Conferences
Math- This week we will be continuing to change fractions into decimals and percentages. The twist will be that they need to now be able to put the numbers in order from least to greatest or greatest to least. There will be at least one graded assignment this week and possibly a test on Friday.
Science- This week we will start my favorite science unit: Matter! In this unit, your child will explore the different types of matter and also learn about elements and compounds, and the different types of solutions. It is so much fun! This week we will start with the basics about Solids, Liquids, and Gases. We will also be able to finally do the science project that was sent home a while ago when we get to the different types of solutions portion of the lessons.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Toth?
Reading- We will continue to explore text structures. Students will identify organizational patterns such as cause and effect, comparison/contrast, problem/solution, and chronological order. Students will work on their Independent Work Menu which will be posted to this week’s reading folder in Schoology on Monday.
English- Students will complete a writing prompt in Achieve 3000 that coincides with this week’s article. Their completed prompt will be due by Sunday at 8pm. They will also review roots and affixes during their station time.
Social Studies- We will continue our exploration of the Southeast Region of the United States. We will explore the 12 states and their capitals and discover unique geographic features of the southeast. Students will have an assessment on this material next Tuesday, 2/9. To prepare for this assessment, they can study the slideshow provided on their Independent Work Menu (slides 1-17).
