January 25-29th
Hello Stinger Families!
This week we are excited to celebrate both Principal Appreciation Week as well as Kindness Week! Please review the newsletter below for important information and concepts we will cover.
Important Dates & Events:
- Jan. 25- Jan. 29th-Kindness Week- Studies have indicated that promoting kindness in youth promotes self-confidence, optimism, leadership, and increased happiness. Mrs. Jones, our school counselor, is challenging each stinger to complete spes_kindness_week_steam_choice_board.pdf. Once your child completes an act have them color it in. We look forward to hearing about how our Stingers are spreading kindness!
- Jan. 25-29th -This week is Principal Appreciation Week and we want to thank Principal Smith for all that she does! All this week we will have a blue box sitting out on a cart outside the front entrance at school if you would like to drop off a thank you note to Mrs. Smith. Let’s start off Kindness Week by saying thank you to our amazing Principal!
- January 29th- Last day of the 2nd nine weeks! If you have not been checking schoology to ensure that your child has turned in all of the work that has been due throughout the nine weeks, please do so as once grades have closed for the nine weeks, we can no longer accept late work. Please encourage your child to have any missing assignments turned in no later than Thursday at 3 p.m. to ensure adequate time for grading and logging into the gradebook.
- Feb. 1 and 2nd- Picture Day (please refer to Mrs. Smith’s email for details)
- Feb 4th Optional Parent Teacher Conferences This year we will be having Virtual Parent/Teacher conferences between 3:30-6:30 on Thursday, February 4. For the most part, Mrs. Toth and I are pleased with everyone’s progress at this time. We are working together to ensure that you will receive feedback on your child’s progress in both classrooms if we feel that a conference is needed. That said, if you have not been contacted by one of us and would still like to have a conference to discuss your specific concerns, please sign up using the links provided. Then, shoot an email to your child’s homeroom teacher addressing specific concerns so that we are ready to discuss them with you during your scheduled time. Please know slots are limited, but we will do our best to accommodate you. If you do not have any immediate concerns or questions about your child’s progress, and have not heard about any concerns from your child’s teachers, but you are worried that you may still need a time, feel free to send an email to see if you need a one on one conference time. Thank you so much for your support!

Math- This week we will be continuing to change fractions into decimals and percentages. Once the students have a solid understanding of this concept, we will begin to put the numbers in ascending and descending order. I hope to have a test on this by Friday. It will be the first grade of the third nine weeks and will not go on the second nine weeks due to turnaround time.
Science- This week we will continue learning about plant parts. Your child needs to be able to label the parts of a flower and know each part’s function and how it relates to fertilization. There will be a test on Wednesday. Also on the test will be questions about photosynthesis and what the plant needs to complete this important life process.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Toth?
Reading- This week, we will continue to explore text structures. Students will identify organizational patterns such as cause and effect, comparison/contrast, problem/solution, and chronological order. Students will work on their Independent Work Menus which will be posted to this week’s reading folder in Schoology on Tuesday. We will have an assessment on Friday.
English- Students will write a short persuasive paragraph this week. They will post their paragraph to a discussion board on Schoology and will be encouraged to respond to their classmates.
Social Studies- Last week we discussed the 5 themes of geography. We will take a closer look at the theme of “region” by exploring the Southeast region of the United States.
