May 24th-28th
Hello Stinger Families,
We hope you are doing well and enjoyed a restful weekend! Tomorrow, in-person students who selected to take the SOL will take the Science SOL assessment. Students are reminded to bring their charged Chromebook, a water bottle, and a sweater (the gym can be chilly!) Virtual students will either take the SOL in person, or an alternative virtual assessment, on Wednesday, 5/26.
Please review the newsletter below for materials needed, important dates, and concepts we will cover throughout the next week:
Materials Needed This Week:
Art Class- Students need a pencil, paper, and something to color with during class.
Music Class- Please submit thank you letters to the VA Opera by Friday (optional). Students are also encouraged to practice for the Crossover Ceremony using the ASL links provided by Mrs. Garcia on her Bitmoji classroom page and posted to your child’s homeroom course.
Important Reminders, Dates, & Events:
Attention Fifth Grade Families! Your PTA is busy planning festivities for our 5th graders during the last week of school. We plan to continue a SPES tradition of submitting baby photos of the students so that they can try to guess which baby is which. Sometime between now and June 1, fill out the form (linked below) and upload a photo of your 5th grader as a baby. That's it! Note: you will need to be logged in to a Google account in order submit the form. If you have any technical difficulties, please email Amy Bush ([email protected]). Thanks so much for your help!

What are we learning next week with Mrs. Toth?
Reading/Writing- Students will utilize their reading and researching skills to learn more about landmarks in the Southwest region. We will continue to review challenging reading skills and strategies previously taught throughout the school year.
Social Studies- We will wrap up our study of the Southwest and begin to explore our final region. Students will learn about the states and capitals of the West later this week or early next week. They will have a quiz on the states and capitals on Friday, June 4th.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Math-This week we are exploring the coordinate plane system. Your child will learn all about quadrants, the x and y axis and how to plot ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.
Science- This week we will continue playing review games in class. We will also continue to work on different review materials to refresh what the students remember from the year.
