May 10th-14th
Hello Stinger Families,
We hope you had an enjoyable weekend with your family and that all of our Stinger moms had a lovely day yesterday! Please review the newsletter below for materials needed, important dates, and concepts we will cover throughout the next week:
Materials Needed This Week:
Art Class- Students need a pencil, paper, and something to color with during class. Students will continue working on their human figure drawings.
Music Class- 2nd, 3rd & 5th - Thank you Letters to VA Opera - Students need a pencil and paper. Letters can also be done via the computer and shared with Mrs. Garcia.
Important Reminders, Dates, & Events:
Attention Fifth Grade Families! Your PTA is busy planning festivities for our 5th graders during the last week of school. We plan to continue a SPES tradition of submitting baby photos of the students so that they can try to guess which baby is which. In the past, this has been done on a poster display in the classroom, but this year we will let the students see the photos in a virtual poster online. Prizes will be awarded for the students who get the most babies correct in each class! So here is what we need you to do: Sometime between now and June 1, fill out the form (linked below) and upload a photo of your 5th grader as a baby. That's it! Note: you will need to be logged in to a Google account in order submit the form. If you have any technical difficulties, please email Amy Bush ([email protected]). Thanks so much for your help!

What are we learning next week with Mrs. Toth?
Reading/Writing- We will continue to review readings skills covered throughout this school year using both fiction and nonfiction texts. I will provide students with additional passages on Achieve 3000 that can be used for comprehension practice. Virtual learners who selected to take the SOL test will take the assessment on Wednesday, May 12th. More information about testing was sent last week from Mrs. Council to our virtual families.
Social Studies- Students will learn about the Southwest region this week which covers four states. We will have a quiz Friday, May 14th, on the states, capitals, and abbreviations of states in this region.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Math-This week we will finish up converting metric measurements and how to find elapsed time. The remainder of the week will be spent reviewing math concepts that have been learned throughout the year to prepare for the math SOL.
Science- This week we will continue playing review games in class. Please review the 5th grade study guide that was sent home in the last packet to help your child prepare for the Science SOL. Here is a copy of the fourth grade science SOLs that you may use also. You will need to use a hcps account to open the document. I would suggest printing it out if at all possible and quizzing your child on the content.
