May 17th-21st
Hello Stinger Families,
We hope you are enjoying your Sunday! Tomorrow, in-person students who selected to take the SOL will take the Math SOL assessment. Students are reminded to bring their charged Chromebook, a water bottle, and a sweater (the gym can be chilly!) Mrs. Gosney has provided an answer key for the math study guide that she sent home at the end of the week. Feel free to share this with your child so they can check their work after they have finished. Click here to view a copy of the key, or email her with any questions.
Please review the newsletter below for materials needed, important dates, and concepts we will cover throughout the next week:
Materials Needed This Week:
Art Class- Students need a pencil, paper, and something to color with during class.
Music Class- 2nd, 3rd & 5th - Thank you Letters to VA Opera - Students need a pencil and paper. Letters can also be done via the computer and shared with Mrs. Garcia.
Important Reminders, Dates, & Events:
Attention Fifth Grade Families! Your PTA is busy planning festivities for our 5th graders during the last week of school. We plan to continue a SPES tradition of submitting baby photos of the students so that they can try to guess which baby is which. In the past, this has been done on a poster display in the classroom, but this year we will let the students see the photos in a virtual poster online. Prizes will be awarded for the students who get the most babies correct in each class! So here is what we need you to do: Sometime between now and June 1, fill out the form (linked below) and upload a photo of your 5th grader as a baby. That's it! Note: you will need to be logged in to a Google account in order submit the form. If you have any technical difficulties, please email Amy Bush ([email protected]). Thanks so much for your help!

What are we learning next week with Mrs. Toth?
Reading/Writing- We will continue to review reading skills covered throughout this school year using both fiction and nonfiction texts. Students will complete a reading reflection in Schoology sharing areas they would like to continue to practice. We will integrate our study of the Southwest into our reading this week.
Social Studies- Students will read across the Southwest region as they complete an interactive reading journey slideshow. Each slide will provide students with a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts from each state in the Southwest region. Students will then complete a discussion post in Schoology analyzing texts they have read. We will also explore some of the physical features, climate, and landmarks that make this region unique.
