April 12th-April 16th
Hello Stinger Families,
We hope you and our Stingers had a fun and relaxing Spring Break and were able to unplug and recharge as a family! We did! Please review the newsletter below for materials needed, important dates, and concepts we will cover throughout the next week:
Materials Needed This Week:
Art Class- Students need pencil paper and something to color with. Please bring your Model Magic Animal to share. Also, bring your Elements of Art
project that you have already started.
Important Reminders, Dates, & Events:
April 14th-Learning Packet Distribution for Virtual Students. 1:30-2:30 or in the bus loop until 6 p.m.
May is Asian and Pacific American Month and to celebrate, your child is invited to work on a research project that will highlight different Asian and Pacific American people during the morning announcements. If you are interested in participating, check out this flyer for more information. Mrs. Bernheart will be in contact if you choose to do some research.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Toth?
Reading/Writing- We will review figurative language by exploring how it is used in stories and poetry. Students will also begin to learn about, and differentiate between, free verse and rhyming poetry. Our weekly Independent Work Menu will be posted to this week’s reading folder in Schoology.
Social Studies- We will begin our exploration of the Midwest. Students will have a quiz on the states and capitals next Friday, April 23rd. Study materials will be posted early this week in your child’s Social Studies course.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Math-This week we will be investigating circles. This is typically one of the fastest SOLs that we cover in fifth grade so a quiz will be planned for this week and could be given as early as Wednesday. For this standard, your student will need to know the vocabulary that describes a circle: circumference, radius, diameter, and chord. They will also need to know the relationship between a diameter and a radius (that a diameter is 2 times longer than a radius). That’s it. Once we have finished with circles, they will begin exploring angles and triangles. This will be carried over into next week.
Science- This week we will be reviewing electricity. A few things that will be covered are conductors and insulators, basic circuits, static electricity, the ability of electrical energy to be transferred into light and motion and to produce heat, simple electromagnets and magnetism, and historical contributions in understanding electricity.
