Hello Families!
The end of the Nine-Weeks is quickly approaching!!! Please, Please, Please check your child’s progress so far in PowerSchool. Please help them stay ahead of missing assignments and points being deducted for late work. We will take make-up work - PLEASE make sure that your child sends the teacher a schoology message with the missing assignment they submitted.

- Thursday, October 28th - Virtual Fall Festival - Link to be shared (6:30 - 7:30)--Mrs. Gosney will be doing live science experiments during the Festival! Come see what she has brewed up! Sessions will start every 20 minutes if you’d want to see the entire experiment before or after visiting other rooms!
- Friday, October 29th - Science Matter Test
- Friday, In-Person Elko Middle School Fall Festival (5 - 7) Wear Pink!
- November 1st - LAST DAY OF THE NINE WEEKS - All grades are due!!!

What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Reading- We continue studying characters and how they change through our class read aloud, Because of Mr. Terupt. We will also begin discussing sign posts and how that helps a reader understand the meaning and become more deeply involved in the story.
English- This week we will study how to fix run-on sentences and also how to identify which type of punctuation needs to be used at the end of the sentence.
Math 5- Students will begin to apply their computation skills while using order of operations. Math 5 students will be responsible for knowing how to solve problems using the order of operations without exponents. There will be a test on Friday.
Math 5/6- Students will begin to apply their computation skills while using order of operations. Math 5/6 students will be responsible for knowing how to solve problems using the order of operations including exponents. There will be a test on Friday.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Harrington?
Small-Group Reading- We will work on our vocabulary notebooks and continue to get used to our small group rotations/schedule. We will continue to work on reading daily and incorporating the parts of a plot into our reading. Please continue to work during the small group time to complete asynchronous work in Lexia, Newsela, Epic and Achieve 3000. The TO-DO list can be found in our Reading Schoology page. Remember Epic is only available during the school day and must be done in small groups or right after class ends.
Social Studies- Next week is a science week. No social studies.
Science- Students will continue to review Matter. This includes the states of matter, physical changes in matter and understanding that matter has mass and volume. We will also introduce mixtures and solutions.
THESE SUPPLIES ARE NOT REQUIRED BUT IF YOU HAVE ONLY SOME OR ALL OF THEM THEY CAN DO THE EXPERIMENT WITH ME: Water, Pepper, Food Coloring, Salt, Pennies, Paper Clips, Milk, Chocolate Syrup, Two different colored pieces of paper. Please see the End of the Day Task List for the date we will use them as this could change based on what we accomplish throughout the day.
