Happy New Year to you all! We hope everyone had a wonderful break and look forward to seeing our 5th graders this week! Please review the newsletter below for important information and concepts we will cover this week.

Jan. 18: Schools closed – Martin Luther King Jr. holiday
Jan. 29: Student half day, staff clerical day
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Math- We will be learning about ways to organize data his week using a stem and leaf plot and a line plot. These are usually easy concepts and we will incorporate the information we learned about analyzing data using measures of central tendency and range along with this lesson this week. A test may be given on Friday.
Science- This week we will continue learning about cells. Students will learn about the shape of plant cells and animal cells and many of the similarities and differences that they share. This week will focus on the organelles that are in each cell and their functions.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Toth?
Reading-. This week we will review skills covered prior to break including main idea and supporting details. During our Word Work study, we will explore synonyms, antonyms, and homophones and take a brief quiz on Thursday. Students will work on their Independent Work Menu which will be posted to this week’s reading folder in Schoology on Tuesday.
English- We will discuss fragments and run-on sentences within our writing pieces.
Social Studies- Students will review geographical landforms and learn the importance of using latitude and longitude to determine location.
