What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Whole Group Reading/Writing- We will continue writing this week. Your student will be working on a new prompt to construct a multi-paragraph essay. This one will involve less help from the teacher so that they will be prepared for the alternate assessment next week.
Gosney Homeroom Math- This week in math we are going to start our week learning about circles. The fifth grade requirement is that your child understands the vocabulary associated with circles: chord, diameter, radius, circumference, and center, as well as the relationship between a diameter and radius. This is a very quick unit and there will be a quiz on Wednesday. On Thursday we will begin looking at variables and how math problems can be written using a variable to stand in the place of an unknown number.
Please encourage your child to complete the required 5 lessons on DreamBox weekly. This is required by the HVA and is used as a grade. You can check out the weekly dreambox board here. 75% met or exceeded their weekly goal last week!

What are we learning next week with Mrs. Harrington?
Small-Group Reading- We will turn our focus to preparation for the benchmark. Students will be working on a variety of things and we will be reviewing data from the last test to create focused areas of need. Your child may have a practice packet in which they will be expected to complete - please know this is to support their reading in the area they need it most!!! Let’s get ready for those Reading SOLS!!! You should read nightly no matter what reading level you are on! DURING READING SMALL GROUP TIME! Please, Please, Please remember that you should be on the computer with Mrs. Massa or Mrs. Harrington at all times. If you happen to walk by and your student is not on a TEAMS link or in a waiting room please ask them where they should be. Shooting Mrs. Harrington a message via Class DOJO is the best method to reach out to me to get students to the right spot as needed during this hour. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE IT PLEASE REACH OUT TO YOUR HOMEROOM TEACHER!!!
Social Studies- This week we will continue to learn about different states in the USA. We will start our NEXT WeVideo project!!! This will be about a Midwest or Northeast state of their choice! They will be required to complete research WITH REFERENCES and a WeVideo. This will be a BIG grade BUT it will be on NEXT NINE WEEKS!!!
Science- We will jump BACK into science on Thursday with the introduction of conservation of energy! Energy has been a big focus this year and we will not look at the different ways that energy is created and how we can help to conserve the energy around us and what methods are most effective with conservation. We will continue this into next week!
