1:1 Meetings with Mrs. Gosney
Please click the link in the email that you received on Sunday to sign your child up for a 1:1 check-in with me next week. This is a great time for me to get to know your child better and to answer any questions they might have.
Class Dojo
Class Dojo is a fantastic communication app that I use to provide communication specific to your child and also for our class. Among numerous other tools, I can upload secure photos for families to enjoy and send updates on what we are learning. It can be accessed by downloading the app OR through your web browser. If you haven’t already connected with me, please use this link, then click on the blue Sign Up button to create your parent account. You’ll type in the name of your child to submit a connection request. The request will remain “pending” until I go in and approve it. Once you have an account and are connected, students are welcome to change the appearance of their Dojo character if they wish.
Next Week with Mrs. Gosney and Mrs. Toth:
Math- Students will continue to use divisibility rules to decide if a number is divisible. They will apply this knowledge to help articulate why a number is prime or composite, even or odd.
Science- Students will continue to learn about the structure of the Earth and explore plate tectonics and faults. They will be completing a 4th and 5th grade science pre-assessment on Monday. This is not timed, will begin in their science class, and can be finished during independent work time. It is okay if your child does not know answers to some of the questions. Mrs. Blankenship and I are trying to see what needs to be retaught from the fourth grade curriculum as well as what the students may know from the fifth grade curriculum. This is not a grade, please do not help your child complete it. If you see that they are frustrated by it because they do not know the answers, encourage them to just answer if they know and skip the ones they don’t. That way we have a true feel for what they know, not what they can guess.
Language Arts- Students will continue to build their virtual reading community by sharing reading interests and setting reading goals. Mrs. Toth will begin individual assessments to get to know each student better as a reader.
Social Studies- Students will begin their first unit on the geography of Henrico county. Students will discover why their family lives in Henrico by conducting a brief interview with parents at home.
Thank you again for a great start to our year!
