Many of you are interested in the IB program at Moody Middle School. They are hosting an open house Monday, Oct. 7, from 5-7 p.m. Parking there is very limited, so the middle school sent us the following tips to share with parents.
Parking tips for IB Open House
If you are planning to attend Moody for the IB Open House, please consider carpooling. If you drive, we have designated areas for parking. Please park in front of the school, in the River of Life Community Church parking lot next to the school, or in the Christ Lutheran Church parking lot across from the school. You may also park along Vernon Road, but please avoid parking in front of a neighbors driveway. Also, for safety reasons, cars cannot park in the bus loop. It is the fire lane and cars will be towed.
I am sending home Scholastic Book Orders today. As you know, this is a great way to get reasonably priced books for your child to read at home. I have set up online ordering for your convenience. To access this link from my website, simply go to the Link-a-Doos page and click the link that is there. Each time you order books online, your child gets a free book pick and I get a voucher to use for the classroom library! It is a great way to keep our class library up to date! If you would like to order something for your child as a special gift or surprise, just email me and I will contact you when our shipment arrives to make arrangements for pickup.
Thank you to all of the parents who have signed the graded paper report and sent it back in with your child. Next week, the report will be coming home on MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, as that is our day to send interims home. We will resume our normal schedule after this date.
We have begun our study of Geology in science and made models of the Earth's layers today. The students had to use fireballs, marshmallows, a stick of gum, and cocoa powder to illustrate their understanding of the layers. To follow up tonight, your child is going to write about what they used for each layer and their reasoning behind their choices. They were told that some answers may be better than others, if theirs was well thought out, and they could tell me why they chose it, it would be considered correct.
In math, we are working with Order of Operations. This is going well. We will be finishing up with it and will have a unit test on Friday. The test will include exponents and order of operations. Your child will not be allowed to use a calculator on the Order of Operations portion of the test.
Finally, in writing we are working on great beginnings and what makes a reader want to read more when they pick up a book. We are going to be using the ideas we discussed in class as our models to make the students writing more interesting.
