We are finished with our unit of pre-algebra and using variables. There is a test tomorrow 2/18 that was postponed from 2/14. We will be moving into geometry concepts to finish out this nine weeks. (Yes, there are a lot of concepts that we must cover with geometry.)
We will be beginning with the different types of angles: acute, obtuse, right, and straight. This year, your child must be able to identify them, as well as name them using their points and vertex, and measure them using a protractor. For some kids this is super easy, for others, using the tool is more of a challenge. Once they have mastered angles, we will combine that knowledge to tackle triangles. I do not have a test scheduled yet, but will update the fifth grade calendar when I do.
Reading:
The students are reading their novels and seem to really be enjoying them. I am excited about how well they are doing with the reading and understanding of the stories. We will continue novel studies throughout the rest of the nine weeks and may even have time to do one more novel!
Student Led Conferences:
We are looking forward to seeing you on Thursday so your child can present all their hard work. Don't forget about all the fun activities that are going to be happening around the school as well.
