There are a lot of fun activities coming up. Field day is going to be next Friday, May 2. We are also going to be going on two field trips in the next few weeks. The first trip will be to Regal Cinemas to see two IMAX movies that will review the ocean. Then we will be going to Pocahontas Middle School so that the students will be able to get a taste of middle school and know better what to expect. All students, even ones going to Moody will go on this trip. The Crossing Over Ceremony will be held Wednesday, June 11. Fifth Grade Celebration is Thursday, June 12 and June 13 is our final half day of school!
We have also gotten the testing schedule and your child should have brought it home today. Just to recap this information, the SOL Reading test is slated for Tues. May 13. Math will be taken over 2 days: Mon. May 19 and Tues. May 20. Finally, science will round out of tests and be taken on Thurs. May 29.
In math, we are flying now. This week we are working with quadrilaterals and also with finding perimeter, area, and volume. There will be a test on Friday that covers all of these concepts.
In science we had a unit test on Sound today. Most students did very well on this. I would encourage you to encourage your child to begin reviewing notes from the year now in preparation for the SOL test. Any notes that he/she has from fourth grade would also be a great review. Tomorrow we will begin our final unit on light. This is another very short unit and a test will be given no later than Thursday of next week.
In writing, we are on schedule with the research project. The students have finished their research and are working on creating an outline so that they can use to write their paper. We will continue with this and everyone is on track to finish on time.
