Here are some reminders from Dr. Slaughter.
If you haven't already filled out my link to the t-shirt form, please remember that the deadline to do so is FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18! The PTA has partnered with Short Pump Orthodontics and will be getting each child in the school their very own shirt to wear for field trips and school spirit days! Please click here to fill out the form!!
Also, please take a few minutes to complete the 2019-20 Beginning of Year Survey. Please share your feedback with us by Friday, 10/18. Thanks!
Please consider joining the PTA if you have not already! It’s $5 to join. This year, the class in each grade level that has the highest percentages of families who have joined PTA by Friday, October 25th, will be able to vote on getting Dr. S in a special costume and choose to have her either eat lunch with the class in the classroom, read a story, or join them for recess to play kickball! The grand reveal of the class winners will take place on Monday, October 28th at the first Buzzy Bash of the year!
Math:
We are finishing up Order of Operations and will be moving on to Computation. For the beginning of the units, calculators are NOT ALLOWED. Students must be able to do the math quickly and accurately and show their work. This year, students will work with adding, subtracting, multiplying 3 digit x 2 digit numbers, and dividing with 2 digit divisors. A lot of students have trouble with the 2 digit divisor because it is a new concept, but practice is the key. This is a fast unit since it deals with whole numbers, but we will continue in the computation strand and introduce the same skills using decimals. Once the computational skills have been mastered, we will move onto multi-step word problems.
Small Groups:
I have finished F&P testing and my small groups are ready to begin! Your child should have shown you a book report sheet that they need for you to sign by this Friday. The book report is not due until November 8.
