Hallelujah! Spring seems to finally be here! We are all enjoying the wonderful warm weather at recess. I am so glad that it is finally here!
As a reminder, grade forms will come home Friday. This will be the final grade for the third nine weeks and what you can expect to see on the report cards. In math, we have put Fraction Speed Bumps on hold and are currently finishing up our unit on Fractions. This week, your child is either working to gain more independence with adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with uncommon denominators with me, or is working independently on a choice menu that will be turned in on Friday. Next week, we will finish up our fraction unit with comparisons of fractions to each other and also to decimals. A unit test on all of the material covered that deals with fractions will be given next Thursday. In science, we are having lots of fun with our trip around the world to discover how real scientists use chemical reactions to help the environment and learn more about the world around us. So far, we have discovered that chemical reactions create a gas, change color, or form a precipitate. There is only one more experiment to do before we begin our study of sound and light. In writing, we are focusing on research this week. At this point, you should have seen a calendar and also a packet of information about the expectations for the Independent Research Project your child is working on in class. Please don't be alarmed by the checkpoints. These are just put in to make sure that everyone is on the right track and it will help to keep me informed of where your child is in the process. Research does not have to be finished until next Friday, April 11, and if they need more time, they may certainly use Spring Break to continue the research. We should be ready to delve into writing the papers on Monday, April 21 when they return. Blue information sheets about ordering a field day t-shirt came home yesterday.
