What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Math- This week the math 5 students will continue working on order of operations while the math 5/6 students will continue working on exponents and perfect squares. There will be a quiz at the end of the week for all students. I am hoping for Friday. This will not be moved up, but may be pushed into next week as I ascertain the level of mastery throughout the week.
Science- This week we are reviewing the fourth grade SOL of weather. I was impressed with everything the students remembered Friday. Most were able to work independently on an interactive notebook and then check it with me. We will finish the notes on Monday and then do a few activities with weather on Tuesday. There will be a short quiz on Wednesday. Students can use the interactive notebook for notes to study with. On Thursday, we will begin our exploration of the ocean.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Toth?
Reading- We will continue to explore character development using familiar characters from our class read aloud Because of Mr. Terupt as well as other passages. We will also discuss the theme of selected texts. Students will have a reading test on skills covered thus far on Friday. Students will receive a new independent work menu with this week’s assignments that they will work on during class. Important due dates and explanations of assignments are located on this document. Your child will be able to access this document by going to their Reading course and clicking on the Materials section. The menu will be in this week’s folder that will be labeled, October 12-16th. I will explain everything on this menu in class. The menu will be posted Monday or Tuesday morning (at the latest).
English- We will review adjectives and adverbs this week. Students will have a brief quiz on interjections, adjectives, and adverbs on Thursday. We will practice enhancing given sentences by incorporating adjectives and adverbs during a writing exercise that encourages students to elaborate.
Social Studies- We will begin to explore Henrico History by studying why the English settlers chose the site of Henricus. We will also learn about several individuals who made contributions to the history of Henrico. We will focus mainly on the first six slides of our slideshow. Students will have a quiz on the vocabulary and first six slides next Tuesday, October 20th. The slideshow will be found in the materials section of your child’s Social Studies course in this week’s folder.
