Tuesday, November 3rd- Student Holiday/ Teacher Workday
Wednesday, November 4th- Independent Virtual Learning Day for Students
Teachers will remind students on Monday, November 2nd what they should work on this day. This would be a wonderful time to complete and submit any unfinished work or missing assignments for the first quarter. Throughout the nine weeks, we have encouraged students to take ownership of their learning and use PowerSchool to check their grades. Remind them if anything is marked incomplete or missing, they need to turn it in to avoid negative consequences with their overall average. We strongly encourage all missing work to be submitted by Friday evening at 8pm in order for students to receive credit for this marking period. Students may reach out to Mrs. Toth or Mrs. Gosney via Schoology if they have any questions.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Toth?
Reading- We will continue to notice and note reading signposts to encourage deeper thinking while reading. Students will practice identifying these signposts using the novel Because of Mr. Terupt. A new independent work menu with this week’s assignments will be posted. Important due dates and explanations of assignments are located on this document. Your child will be able to access this document by going to their Reading course and clicking on the Materials section. The menu will be in this week’s folder that will be labeled, November 2-6 th. I will explain everything on this menu in class. The menu will be posted Monday or Tuesday evening.
English- Rough Drafts for descriptive writing pieces are due on Wednesday, November 4th, by 8pm. Students will also receive a checklist they can use to revise and edit their rough drafts. We will continue to practice punctuating dialogue correctly using quotation marks.
Social Studies- We will continue to explore Henrico History by studying slides 7-17 in our slideshow for Henrico History Part 1. Students will have a test on this material on Friday, November 6th (this is a change). The slideshow will be found in the materials section of your child’s Social Studies course in this week’s folder.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Math- This week we are going to be working on multiplication and division. The multiplication will include correctly solving problems that involve multiplying 3 or more digit numbers by 2 digit numbers. Division problems will be limited to 1 digit divisors this week. A quiz will be given on Friday. On Wednesday, students should use their math notebooks to watch two short videos about how to use their knowledge of fact family facts to do “short” multiplication. There are several sheets in their notebook they should complete to show their understanding. More direct information will be provided tomorrow during class.
Science- We will continue to study the ocean this week. A quiz on the geography of the ocean floor will be given on the asynchronous day, Wednesday. Students will need to be able to correctly label each section of the ocean basin and tell a little bit about each part. On Thursday, we will begin discussing the different zones in the ocean and what happens to pressure and light as you descend deeper into the ocean.
