Week of December 6, 2021
Hello Families!
Time is flying, please make sure you and your child are checking the powerschool and the missing work links located in the schoology pages and completing work on time! Remember late work will have points deducted off the final grade this nine weeks. Please always feel free to reach out with any questions you might have on DOJO or email!
Please review the newsletter below for materials needed, important dates, and concepts we will cover throughout the next week:
- As a reminder, please access this site for Henrico Family Device & Digital Resource Support. Also, click here for information on in-person technical support. YOU CAN TAKE YOUR COMPUTER TO THE NEAREST MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR SUPPORT ON THE DEVICE! It is critical that you take care of your device and keep all programs running smoothly for a smooth educational experience.
- Google Form: For HotSpots for the internet or any other computer needs.
- Please make sure you are completing your Lexia AND Dreambox weekly! These activities will hold weight on your final grade.
- Remember late work will be graded within the as the teacher has time to get back around to it, NOT IMMEDIATELY, as we are trying to keep up with current material and make up work does take a back seat to this. Know we will get to it within a week IF you send a schoology message.

What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Reading-We will be finishing up text features this week with our reading of “Beauty and Disaster”. This is a true story that centers around the eruption of Kilauea in Hawaii in 2018.
English-
Congratulations to our class Spelling Bee Winners! Aahad Kopparthi, Naomi Davis, Brielle Barnes, and Pri'Yana Blunt!
We have finished our Thankful Project and essay. I will be in the process of grading them in the coming week. Please feel free to have your child share it with you. I am proud of their effort on what is many of their first time writing a multi-paragraph essay. As we head into December we are going to be working on grammar.
Gosney Homeroom Math- This Wednesday there will be a quiz on all computation but it will be heavy on 2 digit divisors. Please check with your child and encourage them to stay after school with me if they need help with this concept.
I am still having trouble with students completing our weekly EXPECTATION of at LEAST five lessons in Dreambox. This is not only a requirement, it is also a really easy way for your child to earn bonus points in math! You can check out the weekly dreambox board here. If you see your child’s name on the board, then they have met the requirement. I am also listing students who may not have completed all five lessons, but did attempt to begin the assignment.
Harrington Homeroom Math- This Wednesday there will be a computation quiz on multiplying and dividing decimals.

What are we learning next week with Mrs. Harrington?
Small-Group Reading- We will be working on expanding our vocabulary in our weekly vocabulary notebooks. We will also continue to work on using our comprehension strategies while using leveled literacy Footprints lessons. We will continue to reinforce concepts taught by Mrs. Gosney and continue to develop our concept of “Aha” moments and how they can shift a change in characters or events. This lesson will continue into this week as well! Please continue to remind your child that the requirement is to complete UNITS on Lexia not TIME. This ensures the students are actively engaged in the program. We have heard your concerns and have our own about Newsela - therefore we will stop assigning Newsela and add on an additional Achieve article. Thank you for all the input!!!
Social Studies- My Favorite Project was due last week. We will continue to present this week as well!
Science- Sound & Light: We will look into light and sound on a deeper level. The focus will be on how the two move and what kind of waves they travel in. We will learn the different parts of the light and sound waves. We will learn about which type of matter sound travels through the best. As well as the speed of their travel and other key characteristics of sound and light.
