On Monday we will be having Miss Jordan Margerum joining our class as a student teacher for the next 7 weeks. Ms. Margerum is a senior at Randolph-Macon and will graduate in the spring! I have already met with her twice and am very pleased with the amount of dedication and initiative she has shown. She will be sending out an introduction letter sometime next week to formally introduce herself to you.
As you know, Valentine's Day is Thursday, February 14th! Your child may create of buy Valentine cards for student in the class; although, it is not required. The school rule is no food (candy) allowed. Thank you for understanding. If your child is planning on giving Valentines to students in our class, please have him/her create one for each student (so no one is left out). They will not be making a special container for their cards this year. If you need a list of class names, they can be found on this page.
Math: We are finishing up our unit on adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions. There will be a test on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will be spent reviewing ordering fractions and decimals for all fifth grade math students and learning about ratios with all sixth grade math students.
Reading: In reading we are beginning our novel studies. The novels for this round are The Graveyard Book, Holes, Number the Stars, and A Wrinkle in Time. All four of these selections have one the Newberry Award for Children's Literature and I believe your child will enjoy reading them. During these novel studies, I like to have the students do most of the work in their reading class in schoology. This gets them ready for the due dates and expectations of using the computers in middle school. With that being said, a great deal of their grades will be on this online platform and not able to be sent home. PLEASE feel free to contact me if you would like to see anything on schoology and your child is unable to show it to you.
