The Portal will be open for parents by 7:00 AM on Monday, February 15, and it will be closed at 10:00 PM on Friday, February 26. Directions to sign up for classes are here. Update: Moody MS is asking IB accepted students to choose their courses for next year in PowerSchool between February 22-26th. Families should not go into the portal to choose classes for Pocahontas if they have been accepted to the IB program. This is a change from what was previously communicated to you. If you have already signed up for Pocahontas classes do not worry! They will change it once you register at Moody, and you should have Moody classes in PowerSchool this week. If students are on the waitlist and get accepted, Moody MS will work with those students and parents to change the classes in powerschool at that time.

Reading- Students will continue to work on different text structures during small group instruction. We will begin our study of media messages by learning how media messages are constructed and for what purposes. Students will work on their Independent Work Menu which will be posted to this week’s reading folder in Schoology.
English- Students will learn about comparative and superlative adjectives and adverbs and how to correctly use them within their writing. (We were unable to cover this skill last week due to our snow days).
Social Studies- We will have an assessment on the Southeast region this week. Due to recent snow days and lost class time, students will be permitted to use their notes/ slideshow to answer the questions that will be provided. Our Southeast State Project will be due March 5th. Directions for this project were given in class and are posted in your child’s Social Studies course in Schoology. You can also find a copy of the project directions, a checklist, and note-taking guide in the Learning Packet that was available last week at Short Pump or sent electronically.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Math- We will continue working with fractions this week. This week we will work with adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with like and unlike denominators. Due to the weather delays we are a little behind, but should be able to catch up shortly. I am hoping to still have a cumulative test over all of the fraction material by Friday, 2/26.
Science- This week we will be continuing our study of Matter. Since everyone is now finished with the phases of matter and elements and compounds portion of the lessons, we will be finishing up this week with information on mixtures and solutions. We will be conducting our science experiment on Monday! If your child has the supplies, they can get them out and be ready to go with it in the morning.
