As we returned yesterday, we started right in with algebra concepts. Mrs. Norris popped in and sent me an email commending how in tune to the lesson the students were! We focused on the vocabulary yesterday in hopes of creating a sound foundation of knowing the terminology that goes along with algebra. In the next two weeks, we will be writing expressions that go along with word problems, using hands on equations, and then solving simple one step equations. If your child enjoys this unit or simply wants more practice with basic pre-algebra skills, Dragonbox is a great app that you can download on a "smart" device and they can practice and discover basic concepts.
We also started a new unit in science. We will be learning about living systems in the next few weeks. Your child will have the chance to create a 3-d model of a cell and design a "wanted" poster for a missing organelle. After exploring plant and animal cells, we will move onto the classifications of living systems.
In writing we started the week with Wordly Wise, and next week they will have a choice prompt to write about.
It's time for a new session for Girls on the Run. Registration is now open for girls in grades 3-5. If your daughter is interested, please download this flyer for more information.
Pocahontas Middle School will be coming over on Thursday morning to meet with the students and give them a course catalog that will come home to you. This catalog contains all curriculum pathways and offerings for students in Henrico County Public Schools in grades 6-12 and is not specific to any one school. Even if your child is hoping to attend Moody Middle School, this is information that they will need to hear to get an idea of the various offerings and clubs that the middle schools have.
