Important Dates & Events:
- Monday, Jan. 18: Schools closed – Martin Luther King Jr. holiday

Reading- We will begin our week with a review of making inferences and drawing conclusions. Later in the week, we will explore text organizational patterns. Authors use a variety of organizational patterns to provide information to the reader and to make the information easier to comprehend. Students will begin to identify organizational patterns such as cause and effect, comparison/contrast, problem/solution, and chronological order. In Word Work, we will expand our vocabulary while reading by using our knowledge of roots and affixes to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words. Students will work on their Independent Work Menu which will be posted to this week’s reading folder in Schoology on Tuesday. Students will have an assessment on Friday.
English- Students will write a short persuasive paragraph this week. They will be able to choose from a variety of topics.
Social Studies- We will review absolute and relative location and continue to explore the 5 themes of geography.
What are we learning next week with Mrs. Gosney?
Math- We will be learning about probability this week and finish up the unit on Wednesday with a test. Your child should be able to describe probabilities as fractions and design tree diagrams to show sample spaces and outcomes.
Science- This week we will continue learning about plant parts. We will continue this study through the week and finish up with a test next week.
