Today, your child should have brought home several papers. The first one is a paper with the new dates for the Spring Writing SOL. The tests will now be given on Monday, March 24 (multiple choice) and Wednesday, March 26 (writing prompt). The second paper that you should have received was a tDap form. If you would like for your child to receive the shot at school, please fill out the forms and return them by the due date. Another paper that came home is the permission slip for the rescheduled Aquatic Safety trip. We will now be going to the Patrick Henry YMCA instead of the Shady Grove YMCA. As we will be gone through our lunch, your child will need to pack a lunch for this trip.
This week in math, we have begun our fraction unit with ratios. We are exploring how to write them and real-life applications. Tomorrow we will be using them to find unit rates. Soon we will be moving on from there into fractions.
In science we are continuing our study of matter: atoms and elements. Your child has been given a project to do. They will research 2 elements in class and then they will create an advertisement to inform their classmates of their elements properties. We will begin researching the elements in class on Friday and then the final advertisement is due on Monday, March 17.
We finished up writing camp and I think all the skills that were reviewed will be useful. I am planning on conferencing with your child during writing over the next week so that he or she will have some useful strategies to use on the prompt portion of the test. As a whole, the class is full of great writers. We won't have to tweak much to make a stellar paper.
Interims came home yesterday. Thank you for signing and returning them by tomorrow! Have a great rest of the week!
