Graded paper folders came home today. Please be on the lookout. These include some printouts from tests that have been in the grade book since the beginning of the nine weeks due to Powertest having printing issues with the reports. As always, you can check your child's averages on Power School.
This week a yellow sheet was sent home with your child about the end of the year Fifth Grade Celebration. Attached to this sheet is information about ordering a Fifth Grade Celebration t-shirt and also about sending in a baby picture. The deadline for both of these things is Friday, May 10.
Math:
We have finished all of the fifth grade SOLs and are now going to be reviewing the things we have learned until the SOL tests. The math tests are scheduled for Thursday, May 16, and Friday, May 17. Please let me know if you have any questions. You can also expect some form of homework in math to occur each night. Even if your child has completed the homework at school, please review it with them at home. As the days are becoming nicer, I am noticing a trend of incomplete homework beginning by a few students!
Reading: We have begun writing our research papers. Everyone has at least an introductory paragraph. We will focus on creating an outline for the body of their paper on Monday. After that, they will be expected to write the paper every day until it is completed. This can be done at school. The papers must be completed by May 17 so that we can then turn them into a book. Mrs. M will be coming into our class to show the students how to use the Book Creator software to create their book. Then, they will have a week to get that together. Don't forget the Showcase is slated for May 30!
The reading SOLs are next week, Thursday, May 9, and Friday, May 10. There is not much to study for the reading SOL, but I am confident your student is going to ROCK them!
