We had such a great time at Morefield Mines yesterday! Hopefully your child came home excited to share their finds with you. While it was overcast, the weather held off until we got back and we all stayed relatively dry, even though most of our shoes were caked in mud.
Just a reminder, SOLs are fast approaching. We will begin testing on Monday morning with Day 1 of the Reading SOL. Then, day 2 Reading will be held Thursday. The following Tuesday, 5/17, will be day 1 of Math and day 2 is that Friday. Science will be the next week. Please click on the calendar link if you would like to see this in my google calendar.
Please remind your children that even though the year is winding down, expectations have not changed. I have had some boys who seem to think taking other people's supplies, just because they are "friends" is okay. Then it becomes a game to get them back. Please remind them that they should not be using other people's supplies without permission and most definitely should not be out of their seat to take someone else's things.
We are almost finished with reading our biographies. Due to the books coming in later than expected from the partner libraries, we are past the scheduled dates that you saw and signed off on. Please check google calendar for updated due dates. All books and note cards should be completed by Monday after the SOL test. We will begin working on our essays that week. Those are due Monday, 5/16. That week we will hopefully have some time to work on our presentations in class and presentations, along with the project from home, are due on Monday, 5/23.
In math, we are reviewing all of the concepts that were taught this year. I am pleased with the computation component so far. Please ask your child to see their packet and review at home with them over the concepts that we are reviewing. They should all have their packets to show you as I am taking a random notebook check grade on the packet.
In language arts, our focus continues to be reading our biographies. We have also had instruction on the elements of poetry. I gave another quick check grade on using quotations Tuesday and I am very pleased with the students' progress. Most improved dramatically on the previous assignments grade.
