- The Title or Essential Question
- Their questions and answers to these questions. I have strongly encouraged the students to use what they already have in their research paper and to just "pop out" the text that is embedded in the paper.
- Any relevant pictures or examples that they have found. If they met with an expert, have pictures of them involved with their community service, or have taken a trip to find out more information these would be perfect to use! If it is impossible to have personal pictures, please feel free to print some from the Internet.
- A narrative paragraph that tells about the student's experience with the project. We will work on this in class on Monday and Tuesday, so that can be the last addition to the board. If spacing is a concern, your child can just print this off at school and we can put it out in front of the board.
I have been told by at least half of my class that this is the "fun" week! Secretly, I'd have to agree. We've started out with our postponed Field Day, and could not have asked for better weather! Today, we had a Young Scientist Lesson and tomorrow and Friday we will have a field trip. After a week of this, going back to a normal schedule and SOL testing is going to be a real shock!
As you all know, this is also Teacher Appreciation Week, and even though it is only Tuesday, I already feel so loved! Your kids are the best and I truly love each and every one of them! It's great to have a job where I get to work with such awesome young people everyday! Thank you so much for the thoughtful treats you have sent in and the encouraging notes. They mean so much. Even though we aren't spending a lot of time in the classroom, I am squeaking in as much study time as possible this week! We are on track to finish our unit on Circles on Thursday with a test. After this, we will work on probability. That unit usually goes pretty quickly, and then we'll have a few days to review before our Math SOL on May 19 and 20. We are also finished with all of the new SOLs for the year in Science. I am currently putting the students in to groups to work on presentations. They are going to work together to become experts who will create a presentation that they will present to the class to review all the other SOLs from fourth and fifth grade. I will be giving them a handout that they can use to create a study guide, a worksheet, and an activote quiz for the other groups. After they have created this, they will turn it into me and I will make copies for the other groups. They will then work on a presentation that they will use to teach their lesson to the class. At the end of the lesson everyone will take an activote quiz using the notes that were created by the experts. This is all happening in preparation for the SOL on May 29. In writing, we are finishing up our big Independent Project. I hope you have all had a chance to look over the checklist that will be used to grade the Projects. Research papers should be done and ready to turn in by Friday. We are working diligently on these in class and will have a few more days to finish it up. The tri-fold board is due no later than Wednesday of next week. Included on the board, your child should have:
